Week-on / Week-off Schedule
Week-on / week-off is the simplest 50/50 schedule: each parent has the child for one full week, then hands off for the next. Most popular with older kids.

How it works
- 1Parent A has the child from Sunday to Sunday.
- 2The following week, Parent B has the child from Sunday to Sunday.
- 3A mid-week dinner or overnight is often added to reduce time apart.
Pros
- Only one transition per week — least disruptive schedule.
- Each parent has full responsibility for the school week.
- Simple to plan around work travel and shift schedules.
Cons
- Seven days is a long time without seeing the other parent — hard for young kids.
- One parent may miss a full week of a recurring event or activity.
Who this schedule works for
- Teenagers and older kids (11+).
- Parents with demanding jobs, shift work, or travel.
- Families where both homes are equally set up for full-time care.
