Every Other Weekend Schedule
Every other weekend is the traditional custody arrangement in the U.S.: the child lives primarily with one parent and spends alternating Friday-through-Sunday weekends with the other. Often paired with a mid-week visit.

How it works
- 1The child lives with the primary parent Monday through Thursday every week.
- 2Every other Friday afternoon through Sunday evening, the child is with the other parent.
- 3A weekday dinner (typically Wednesday) is often added.
Pros
- Provides one consistent primary home.
- The most familiar arrangement in family courts.
- Works when parents live far apart.
Cons
- Only ~4 overnights per month with the non-primary parent.
- Non-primary parent misses most weekday routines and activities.
Who this schedule works for
- Cases where parents live in different cities or states.
- Families where one parent has been the primary caregiver historically.
- Situations where 50/50 is not practical for work or logistical reasons.
