3-3-4-4 Schedule

The 3-3-4-4 schedule is a 50/50 two-week rotation that starts with three-day blocks and then gives each parent a four-day stretch. It limits long separations without requiring a handoff every day.

How it works

  • 1The first half of the cycle gives Parent A three days and Parent B three days.
  • 2The second half gives Parent A four days and Parent B four days.
  • 3The next 14-day cycle repeats, preserving an equal overnight split.

Pros

  • Balances frequent contact with longer, calmer stretches.
  • Each parent gets both weekday and weekend time over the cycle.
  • Fewer transitions than a 2-2-3 schedule.

Cons

  • The changing block lengths take a little practice to remember.
  • Works best when both homes are close to school and activities.

Who this schedule works for

  • School-aged children who can handle three- to four-day stretches.
  • Parents who want a 50/50 plan without daily transitions.
