Fill-in sections to complete the plan

  • Holidays (even years / odd years). Thanksgiving, winter break, spring break, summer weeks, each parent's birthday, the child's birthday, Mother's/Father's Day.
  • School breaks. State whether the rotation continues through breaks or pauses for a block schedule.
  • Transportation. Who drives, and what happens if a parent is more than 15 minutes late.
  • Communication. Which channel is the record of record, and expected response time.
  • Swaps. How far in advance a change must be requested and how it gets confirmed in writing.
  • Right of first refusal. Whether the other parent is offered the time before a sitter is used.

See it laid out before you commit

If you want to see how the rotation actually falls before filling anything in, the 2-2-3 calendar example maps four full weeks day by day with every exchange marked. The full 2-2-3 guide covers who the schedule suits and where it breaks down.

Skip the paperwork: generate it instead

Paper templates go stale the first time someone swaps a weekend. The custody schedule generator produces the same 2-2-3 rotation for a whole year from one start date, and CustodyTrac's shared calendar keeps both households on the identical version — with swap requests, holiday overrides, and a timestamped record of what actually happened if you ever need to show a court.

What you get

Frequently asked questions

What is included in a 2-2-3 custody schedule template?
A usable 2-2-3 template covers five things: the repeating day blocks (Mon-Tue, Wed-Thu, Fri-Sun), which parent holds each block in week 1 and week 2, the start date the rotation runs from, the exchange time and location for each handoff, and a holiday section that overrides the rotation.
Is this 2-2-3 template free?
Yes. The printable template, the CSV version, and the auto-generating calendar inside CustodyTrac are all free. There is no premium tier and no per-parent charge — both households use it at no cost.
Can I use this template in a parenting plan or court filing?
The schedule wording is written to drop into a parenting plan, but it is not legal advice and it is not a court form. Fill it in, then have your attorney or mediator review it before it becomes part of an order. Courts want specific dates, times, and exchange locations — leave nothing as 'to be agreed'.
What start date should I use?
Pick the Monday of the first full week both parents can follow the rotation, and write that exact date on the template. Every later week is derived from it, so an ambiguous start date is the single most common source of 2-2-3 disputes.
How do I handle holidays on a 2-2-3 template?
Keep holidays in a separate section that overrides the rotation for those days only. Alternating by even and odd years is the most common approach. Do not shift the rotation to make up the time unless your order specifically requires makeup days.
What if we need to change a day?
Write the swap down. In CustodyTrac a swap request needs the other parent's explicit sign-off and is timestamped, so a one-off change never becomes a disagreement about what was agreed.
